Poultry & Meat Shop POS: Live Weight, Daily Rates and Fast Counters

A poultry or meat shop is a weight business with a price that moves daily and a counter that has to be quick. There is no batch number to record and no size matrix to manage — the complexity is all in the scale and the rate.

The Poultry & meat preset reflects that: one flag on, everything else out of the way.

What the poultry & meat preset switches on

  • Sell by weight — decimal quantities, per-kg rates, and scale barcode support.

The till is a grid of large tiles, and credit is off by default. Both are settings you can change.

The scale, connected properly

If your scale prints barcode labels, GOF POS reads them directly: the item code and the weight are both in the barcode, so scanning puts the right product on the bill at the right weight with no typing and no arithmetic.

You set the item code on each product once, matching what is programmed into the machine. The code is stored as text, so a leading zero is preserved — on a scale keypad 001234 and 1234 are the same code, and treating them as numbers would split one product into two.

An in-store shelf label printed at zero weight is recognised as a label rather than being sold as 0 kg.

Changing the rate every morning

Rates are edited straight from the product list. If you want a safety net, set a minimum margin and the system will catch a price typed below cost before it reaches the counter. Price changes are written to the audit log, so a rate that is wrong has a trail rather than an argument.

The drawer, which is where the money goes

A meat counter is cash-heavy and often has more than one person on it during a day. GOF POS tracks the drawer per shift: the opening float, cash sales, cash in and out, cash expenses paid from the till, and cash refunds. At close it tells you what should be there and you count against it.

The calculation includes the money that left during the shift, not just what came in. That sounds obvious and it is the single most common thing other systems get wrong — drop one of those terms and a cashier holding exactly the right money is reported short by it, and the variance figure stops being evidence of anything.

Waste and shrinkage, written down

Meat loses weight sitting, and some of it is thrown. Stock adjustments record a write-off with a reason attached, and the movement ledger keeps the history. Adjustments past a threshold need an explicit reason from someone with permission, and are written to the audit log — so at month end the gap between purchases and sales has an account of itself.

Buying side

Purchases record what you actually received rather than what you ordered, and transport cost is spread across the lines by value — so the delivery charge on a load lands in the per-kg cost where it belongs instead of vanishing into a total you cannot compare against your selling rate.

Supplier balances are shown with a direction stated in words, so there is no guessing about who owes whom.

Getting started

Setup takes about ten minutes. When you sign up you pick Poultry & meat as your business type, and GOF POS switches on the features above for you — no configuration screens to hunt through, no consultant. If something in the preset does not suit you, every switch is yours to change afterwards in Settings → Business type.

The app runs on Windows, macOS and Linux for the counter, and on Android and iOS for stock checks and quick sales on the move. The desktop till keeps working when the internet does not, and syncs when it comes back.

See pricing or download GOF POS and try it on a real day's trading.
